Provotype 02. Lab invaders

Early sketch.

The Lab invaders provotype aims to inform on and memorialize extinct and endangered bird species in the Swedish landscape. We want the provotype to inspire understanding and protection of species that are not yet extinct for humans of all ages.
During the weeks of design and concept development, the snowy owl was declared extinct in Sweden, which had a significant impact on the group, as the premise of the project is to include habitats for two vulnerable bird species in Frihamnen. Since then, various iterations inspired by the idea of a snowy owl memorial have been developed, leading to the current design.
Fragmented boards will create the image of a specific bird when viewed from the right angle. Three birds will be made and placed around the Transition lab, a snowy owl, a starling and a swift. The snowy owl will be the spirit and advocate for threatened species as it was newly stated as extinct in Sweden. The Starling and Swift are two bird species that are red listed as vulnerable, although now they can be seen returning to Frihamnen. We hope to provide habitats for them to thrive.
Inside each structure, hidden from the front, but visible from the sides, functions will be distributed, such as bird boxes, plants, insect hotels and possibly bird baths. We also aim to include planting boxes underneath one or two of the structures to become a part of the community gardening at the Transition lab.
